Relocation Services Moving to Manhattan: Tips & Contact Information
With so many people coming and going in NYC, it is important to have some core relocation tips when moving to your new Manhattan apartment.
Here are some notable contacts and tips that you should have at your fingertips:
DMV/ DMV Express- 300 W 34th St (between 8th Ave & 9th Ave) New York, NY 10001
Most New Yorker’s don’t have cars. They walk and take mass transit. It’s not uncommon to meet some New Yorkers that do not have driver’s licenses. This is the best location I have found that is easily accessible to those who don’t have cars int he City but is in a prime Manhattan location. They are pretty quick and efficient at getting you a new NY State driver’s license. They are in Midtown West NYC
Cable Services: Time Warner (718-670-0200) and Verizon (866-529-3098) are the main providers here in Manhattan. But Time Warner is much more well entrenched than Verizon at this point. Your building has to be wired for Verizon for you to avail of services from them. To this date, majority of buildings are not Verizon friendly.
Electric/ Gas- ConEd (800-752-6633) They are the main providers for electric and gas that get bundled in one monthly bill. Heat and hot water are 99% of the time provided by the building without charge. Make sure to ask your Manhattan real estate broker to confirm if your prospective apartments in Manhattan is part of this 99%.
Veterinary Services- At Home Vet with Dr. Jonathan Leshanski. The convenience and service of this vet that comes directly to you is unmatched! He is compassionate and affordable. He helped me deal with the loss of my best friend last year and handled everything from start to finish without sticker shock. He continues to be my at home vet till this day. I wouldn’t know what to do without him!
Top Real Estate Companies in Manhattan- Make sure to ally yourself with a knowledgeable luxury Manhattan real estate broker who will be able to help you navigate the City since this will be your first point of contact into how New Yorkers live, work and play in Manhattan.
Dry Cleaners: There are dry cleaners within a block or 2 of any Manhattan apartment due to the numerous pre-war buildings that line the streets and have no services such as laundry. All pick up and deliver to your door; from dry cleaning to wash and fold.
***Hot Tip: If you give them all your seasonal clothing to clean, some will provide you free storage for those items.***
